Tim Spann, CISAC Chair

California Avocado Commission


Tim Spann is the Research Program Director for the California Avocado Commission. He oversees the Commission’s approximately $1 million of industry-funded research annually on avocado pests and disease, breeding, and production practices. In addition, he helps coordinate the Commission’s grower outreach and education efforts, including field days at the Commission’s Pine Tree Ranch demonstration grove in Santa Paula (Ventura County), and articles on production practices for the Commission’s quarterly From the Grove magazine. Prior to joining the Commission in 2012, Tim was an Associate Professor and Extension Specialist in the Horticultural Sciences Department at the University of Florida’s Citrus Research and Education Center. He received his Ph.D. in plant physiology from the Pomology Department at the University of California Davis, and a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture from the University of Florida.
