Environmental Director
Big Valley Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians

Background

Sarah Ryan is the Environmental Director for the Big Valley Band of Pomo Indians of the Big Valley Rancheria and has worked for the Tribe since 2001, holding various positions within their Environmental Protection Department.  She graduated from the College of William and Mary with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government.  She is responsible for the advancement and oversight of all programs that protect the natural resources of the Tribe within their ancestral boundaries, including the Cyanotoxin Monitoring Program on Clear Lake.  She was very active in the development of Lake County's Quagga Mussel Prevention Program and is a certified quagga mussel inspector with the County.  She is also Chair of the CalEPA Tribal Advisory Committee, and a member of the Lake County Invasive Species Committee, Hinthil Environmental Resources Consortium and Chi Council of the Clear Lake Hitch.  All of these organizations focus on resource protection topics including prevention of invasive species and their impacts.

Personal

"We are living in a time where invasive species have taken advantage of the destruction of natural habitats and they have become widespread, creating huge impacts on many sectors.  Climate change as well as international travel and trade has created opportunities for pests to easily move into and through California. The ISCC and CISAC have the opportunity to develop a collaborative approach to invasive species management, protecting native and cultivated species, habitat and other important features in California before they are irrevocably damaged by invasive species.  It is a pleasure to be a part of the process."

Conflict of Interest Statement

I have no personal financial interest in any actions that CISAC is likely to consider.
